Noel's statement on Oasis split

I think they’re the best rock and roll band in the world. And that’s the whole world. Not just America or England. In Tanzania. And Paraguay. And Mogadishu. And Turkey. There are no better rock ’n’ roll bands than Beady Eye.

Fact of the matter is that great music died quite a while ago. Remember when there were all cool bands in the chart? Oasis, Blur, Pulp and The Verve. Manic Street Preachers could be in the top ten for a month! Now it’s Jessie J and fucking Duffy. Everybody’s got records ‘featuring’ somebody else: it’s either a shit rap about somebody’s struggle, or just… fucking shit music set to some reggae backbeat sung in some trans-atlantic fucking accent. And then they’ll throw some Cockney in just to keep it fucking ‘real.’

Music is a thing that changes people’s lives. It has the capacity to make young people’s lives better. Music got us through school, break-ups, whatever - so it’s more than just entertainment, the way I see it. It’s like, if you can write it, you should do. You’ve got a duty to the world to put it fucking out there. There’s not enough good things in the world. You’ve not got a duty to make more guns, or synthesise more drugs, or fucking design more cars. But you’ve got a duty to make music. If you can, you should.

I don’t mean to straight-bat this, but what people want me to say is, ‘Yes, I’m bang up for the reunion.’ As it draws closer, yeah, the bandwagon will get rolling, the drums will beat louder – but let’s wait for then, eh? It’s years away.

I decided, now I’m not in Oasis, I don’t have to do that any more. Because all that needs to be said has been said. There’s no need any more. I just want to forget the personality wars.

It doesn’t matter if you have a dream and you never get there, that’s all right. The worst is having a dream and never even trying to fulfill it.

Noel Gallagher, interview March 1995 (via our-kid-chancer)

Some girl comes up to me at the airport in Japan. She was pregnant. She says to me, ‘Can you touch my stomach and bless my baby?’ Sorry? ‘Please touch my stomach and bless my baby.’ Ok… there you go, kid… consider yourself blessed. Then she says… ‘Please can you name my baby?’ What? ‘Please name my baby.’ What now?? Right now?? ‘Yes please.’ Ok… Is it a boy or a girl? ‘Oh, I don’t know yet!!’ Jeez… Meet me half way, eh??

“People think I’m controversial for the answers I give to silly questions in interviews, but if somebody asks me what I think about Live 8 or Robbie Williams or Madonna, I’m not thinking about insulting those people; I say what I genuinely feel is in my heart. My conscience is clean, d’you know what I mean? Y’know, I’m true to myself — fuck everybody else.”
